Advent 2008 Resources Online

Advent 2008: Resources for Reading and Reflection: This document was prepared by the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission of the Northeastern Ohio Lutheran Synod of the ELCA & Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown. and can be printed and folded into an eight page booklet with brief reflections on the readings and questions for personal, family, or communal reflection for each week of Advent 2008.

Advent to Epiphany: Catholic Christmas Season 2008:This is an online Advent-Christmas Calendar. Select a date to change this page’s Meditation, Activity and Peacemaking Idea through the season: the First Sunday of Advent through the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. This is on the americancatholic.org Web site.

The Web site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) offers a document called Blessing of the Advent Wreath (PDF), a short prayer celebration that can be used in a classroom, a family or even in a parish at the beginning of Advent.

The season of Advent will be with us in a few days and there are quite a few Web sites that offer resources that can be useful during this period.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) offers several online resources produced by the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy:
Praying Advent:
This site offers simple ways to enter into this Advent season, week by week, in the midst of our everyday lives…. These reflections are for adults. They are prepared, however, to draw children in. They are resources to help us adults with the un-named anticipation or longing in our hearts. They allow us to enter into the experience of our darkness and therefore to give glory to God for the Light…Each week of Advent will have a series of Daily Prayers that are designed to be used by individuals or families or groups.
These reflections are from the Ministry of the Collaborative Ministry Office at Creighton University and are, as with all the faith building resources they make available online, well made and inviting.
